Change a domain's nameservers

Guides2 min read4 steps

Where: Client area › My services › Domains › domain page, “Nameservers (DNS)” block.

Nameservers determine who answers for your domain. Change them when you hand the DNS zone over to another provider, or to come back to our managed DNS.

Change the nameservers

  1. Open the block

On the domain page, in “Nameservers (DNS)”, click “Edit”.

  2. Enter the new servers

Enter at least two different servers, one per line. Use “Add a server” to declare more (up to six).

  3. Save

Click “Save”. The registry is updated immediately.

  4. Allow time for propagation

Depending on the operators, the new delegation can take up to 24 hours to be seen everywhere.

The common pitfall

Pointing to an empty zone takes down the website and email. If the new servers do not contain any record yet, the change is refused or asks for confirmation through “I confirm, point them anyway”: only use this button if you know the destination zone is ready.

If it doesn't work

  • The “Edit” button does not appear: online management is not available for this domain — open a ticket from “Support”.
  • The form rejects the list: check that there are at least two distinct servers, with no duplicates.

Manage your domains

Nameservers are changed from the page of each of your domains.
