.sn domain name: a Senegal web address

Under article 10 of the .sn naming charter, an individual must be an adult with an address in Senegal, and the administrative contact must be established in Senegal. A holder domiciled abroad appoints an agent established in Senegal or, failing that, provides a letter of accreditation to the provider. These are the registry's rules, not ServOrbit's.

No. ServOrbit does not provide an agent in Senegal, because no partner registrar offers one for .sn. The search shows the registry's rule before the name goes into the cart, and the order is not refused. If the registry later asks for the letter of accreditation set out in its charter, the customer writes and provides it.

One case has been observed: a Moroccan company, acting as both holder and administrative contact, registered and then renewed a .sn without an agent. This is not a guarantee, since the charter provides for an agent or a letter of accreditation. For an individual domiciled outside Senegal, no case has been observed either way.

A .sn created today expires on its anniversary date, like most extensions. Only very old names, registered before about 2018, kept a 31 December expiry. Before taking over or renewing an existing name, check its expiry date in ServOrbit's .sn WHOIS, which reads the public record from the registry's RDAP service.

ServOrbit's .sn WHOIS queries the RDAP service published by the registry, rdap.nic.sn. It shows a name's dates, status and name servers, without the holder's contact details. The IANA RDAP directory lists another address for .sn, which does not answer in RDAP: that is why the tool goes straight to the registry.
