Unleash is an open-source (Apache-2.0) feature management platform that lets your team safely ship and control features independently of deployments. With a simple SDK-based toggle, you decide which users see which features — a 10 % canary, a specific user segment, or a kill switch for anything that goes wrong in production.
Unleash follows a client/server architecture: the server stores toggle states and serves them via a REST API, and lightweight SDKs (available for Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Ruby, .NET and more) evaluate flags locally in milliseconds with no round-trip per request. Every flag change is audit-logged with the author and timestamp, giving you a full history of what was enabled when.
On ServOrbit, Unleash runs in two Docker containers — the Node.js app and a PostgreSQL 17 database — both bound to the VPS loopback and proxied by nginx. The admin UI is available at your domain and the /api endpoint is consumed by your applications through the SDK.
Merge code to production with features hidden behind a flag. Enable them gradually by percentage rollout, watch your error rate in Glitchtip, and roll back in one click if something breaks — no hotfix deployment needed.
Define a user segment (e.g. beta testers, internal team, specific organisation IDs) and enable new features exclusively for them. Collect feedback before rolling out to your full user base.

Unleash runs comfortably on a 1 GB RAM VPS. Choose 2 GB if you expect heavy SDK traffic or plan to enable metrics collection. Select Ubuntu 24.04 as the operating system — the template is pre-configured for it.
Go to Marketplace → Development → Unleash and click Deploy. The provisioning script starts the Docker Compose stack (Unleash + PostgreSQL 17) and configures nginx to proxy the admin UI at your domain.
Open https://<your-domain>/ in a browser. The first login page is at /auth/simple/login — enter the admin username and the password shown in your ServOrbit dashboard. Unleash creates the admin account on first startup.
In the Unleash UI, create a project (e.g. my-app) and add a feature toggle. Give it a name (new-checkout), choose the toggle type (Release, Experiment, Kill switch) and configure the activation strategy (e.g. gradual rollout at 10 %).
Install the SDK for your language (e.g. npm install unleash-client or pip install UnleashClient). Initialise it with your Unleash API URL (https://<domain>/api) and a client API key. Call isEnabled('new-checkout') wherever you want to check the flag.
Watch flag evaluations in the Unleash metrics tab. Increase the rollout percentage, change user segments, or disable the flag entirely from the UI — no code change, no deployment.
