Netdata is the easiest open-source monitoring tool to deploy: a single command and you immediately get hundreds of metrics per second (CPU, RAM, disk, network, processes, Docker containers, databases…), with no configuration at all.

Install Netdata

A single command: wget -O /tmp/netdata-kickstart.sh https://get.netdata.cloud/kickstart.sh && sh /tmp/netdata-kickstart.sh. The dashboard is available on port 19999.

Secure access

The Netdata dashboard has no login screen: the agent simply cannot ask for a password. It is therefore never published — neither on the internet nor behind a domain. The recipe forces the service to listen on 127.0.0.1 only (the upstream installer otherwise binds it to every interface), and access goes through an SSH tunnel — ssh -L 19999:127.0.0.1:19999 root@<your-vps-ip>, then http://localhost:19999. That dashboard shows the machine's processes, containers, connections and logs: it is a map of your server, not a home page.

Configure alerts

Edit /etc/netdata/health_alarm_notify.conf to enable email, Slack or Telegram notifications.
