Kener is an open-source status page (MIT licensed) that monitors the very services it displays. Its checks test your APIs and websites over HTTP, your TCP ports, your DNS records, your SSL certificates, your SQL databases, or wait for the signal of a scheduled job (heartbeat). Every result feeds the uptime history published on the page, day by day.

When a service goes down, you open an incident with its timeline of updates; when work is planned, you schedule a maintenance window that visitors see in advance. Subscribers receive these announcements by email, and your team is alerted by webhook, Slack, Discord or email. Everything is set from a web admin interface: logo, colours, light or dark theme, several status pages on one instance, badges and widgets to embed in your sites.

Key features

Built-in monitoring — API/HTTP, ping, TCP, DNS, SSL, SQL and heartbeat checks, no external tool needed.
Incidents with a timeline — successive updates visible to visitors until resolution.
Scheduled maintenance — windows announced in advance on the status page.
Email subscriptions — your customers subscribe to incidents and maintenance (SMTP or Resend required).
Team alerts — webhook, Slack, Discord and email notifications on triggers.
Your brand — logo, colours, light or dark theme, several pages, embeddable badges and widgets.

When to use this solution?

1

The status page of your SaaS

Publish status.your-domain.com: customers check for themselves whether a service is down, and your support desk gets fewer tickets during an incident.

2

Tracking your clients' websites

An agency monitors the sites and APIs it maintains, and shares with each client a status page under its own name, with the uptime history.

3

Scheduled jobs that must run

A nightly backup or an export calls Kener's heartbeat address when it finishes: with no signal at the expected time, the check goes down and the team is alerted.

Deploy Kener on your VPS

Guide optimized for ServOrbit Cloud VPS.

01

Create the VPS and choose the address

Order an Ubuntu 24.04 VPS with 1 GB of RAM. Kener requires a domain: the status page is public and the application rejects any request whose origin differs from its HTTPS address. It opens on a subdomain of one of your domains (for example status.your-domain.com), or on the VPS's free subdomain (kener.{dns_slug}.servorbit-dns.com), HTTPS included. No need to buy a domain name.

02

Install Kener from the Marketplace

In your client area, select Kener, choose the address and click Install. The script deploys the official container and its Redis cache, generates the session secret key and configures the nginx reverse proxy over HTTPS.

03

Log in for the first time

Open https://your-domain/account/signin as soon as the installation finishes: Kener shows the « Create Admin Account » form. Enter your name, your email and a strong password; this first account becomes the administrator, and the form then disappears. No credentials are created in advance.

04

Add your first checks

In the admin area, create one monitor per service: an API check for your website or API, an SSL check for the certificate expiry, a TCP check for a database. Each monitor appears on the public page with its uptime history.

05

Configure email and alerts

Enter an SMTP server or a Resend key to enable visitor subscriptions, then connect team alerts to a webhook, Slack or Discord. Open a test incident to check the whole chain.
