OpenProject is an open source project management platform (GPL-3.0) that covers what teams usually split across two tools: classic planning — a Gantt chart with dependencies, milestones, roadmap, time and cost tracking — and agile work, with Kanban boards, backlogs and sprints. Wiki, forums, meetings and documents live in the same project, next to the tasks.
On ServOrbit, OpenProject installs from the official all-in-one Docker image: the Rails server, PostgreSQL 17 and the cache run in a single container, with data in two persistent volumes. The Community edition has no user limit and no per-seat licence, and the administrator account is created at install time with a generated password shown in your client area.
An agency splits each contract into work packages, sets delivery milestones on the Gantt and tracks time per task. The time report exports to CSV for invoicing, with no third-party tool.
Development teams keep backlogs, sprints and Kanban boards, while management keeps the Gantt view and the roadmap. One instance, no per-user licence.
Meeting minutes, wiki pages and decisions are attached to the project and linked to work packages: the history of a project sits in the same place as its tasks.

Order an Ubuntu 24.04 VPS with 4 GB of RAM recommended (2 vCPU). OpenProject requires a domain: it opens over HTTPS on a sub-domain of one of your domains, or on the VPS's free sub-domain (openproject.{dns_slug}.servorbit-dns.com), HTTPS included. No need to buy a domain name.
In your client area, select OpenProject, choose the address and click Install. The script deploys the container and configures the nginx reverse proxy over HTTPS. The first start takes three to five minutes while the database is initialised and the starter data is seeded.
Open https://your-domain and log in with the username admin and the generated password shown in your client area. Then change it from My account and enable two-factor authentication.
Click New project, pick the modules you need (work packages, Gantt, time tracking, wiki, boards) and invite members with their role. Work packages you create appear on the Gantt straight away.
In Administration → Emails and notifications, enter an SMTP server so invitations, reminders and notifications go out. Without SMTP the application works but sends no messages.
