Which mobile apps are compatible?

Navidrome implements the Subsonic API, so it works with any Subsonic-compatible client. Popular choices: Symfonium (Android, paid), DSub (Android, free), Ultrasonic (Android, open-source), Amperfy (iOS, open-source), iSub (iOS). The built-in web player also works in any browser.

How do I add my music?

Upload your music files to the VPS via SFTP or rsync. Files go into the /music Docker volume (find its host path with docker volume inspect navidrome-music). Navidrome rescans automatically on its configured schedule (default: every hour), or click Scan Library in the admin panel.

How much RAM does Navidrome use?

Under 256 MB in typical use for a personal library of up to ~50,000 tracks. A 1 GB VPS is more than enough. Larger libraries (100k+ tracks) or heavy transcoding may need 512 MB.

Is there scrobbling support?

Yes. Each Navidrome user can link their own Last.fm or ListenBrainz account in their profile settings. Every played track is scrobbled automatically — no third-party plugin required.

Navidrome is a lightweight, open-source music server (GPL-3.0, ~11k GitHub stars) that lets you host your personal music collection and stream it from any browser or Subsonic-compatible mobile app. Written in Go, it runs on a single container with under 256 MB RAM and an embedded SQLite database — no external services required.

Create the VPS

Order a VPS from the marketplace. No domain is required — you can access Navidrome via an SSH tunnel on any plan.

Upload your music

Connect to your VPS via SFTP (using FileZilla, Cyberduck or rsync) and upload your music files to the /music volume. Navidrome scans it automatically every hour, or you can trigger a scan manually from the web interface.

Create the admin account

Open the URL provided in your dashboard (or the SSH tunnel). Navidrome's first-run screen prompts you to choose an admin username and password — done.

Connect a mobile app

Install a Subsonic-compatible client (Symfonium, DSub or Ultrasonic on Android; Amperfy on iOS). Enter your server URL and credentials — your entire library is available offline-capable from your phone.

Frequently asked questions

No. Navidrome is fully functional without a domain. Access it via SSH tunnel: run ssh -L 4533:127.0.0.1:4533 root@your-vps-ip on your computer, then open http://localhost:4533 in your browser. For permanent mobile access, pointing a domain at your VPS and configuring HTTPS is recommended.
