Can Mautic handle unlimited contacts?

Yes. Unlike Mailchimp or Brevo, Mautic imposes no contact limits — the ceiling is the disk and memory of your VPS. A 4 GB RAM VPS comfortably handles lists of 50 000–100 000 contacts. For larger lists, tune MySQL innodb_buffer_pool_size and consider a dedicated database VPS.

Is a domain name required?

Yes, a domain is required for Mautic to work correctly. Email tracking links, unsubscribe pages, landing pages and form submissions all use absolute URLs anchored to the domain you configure during the installation wizard. Changing the domain later requires manual edits to the local.php configuration file.

How do I keep Mautic up to date?

Mautic releases a new version roughly every two months. To upgrade, pull the new image tag (e.g. mautic/mautic:5.3.0-apache) in your compose file, run docker compose pull && docker compose up -d and let the web container run the database migrations on first start. Always back up the MySQL volume before upgrading.

Deploy Mautic from the ServOrbit Marketplace

In your ServOrbit control panel, go to Marketplace → Automation & Workflows → Mautic and click Deploy. The provisioner creates the MySQL database, generates the required secrets and starts all four containers (MySQL, web, cron worker and message queue worker).

Complete the installation wizard

Open your domain in a browser. Mautic will redirect you to its web installer. Enter your site URL, check the pre-filled database connection (already configured by the provisioner), create your admin account and confirm. The wizard runs the database migrations and redirects you to the Mautic dashboard.

Configure your email sending

In Settings → Email Settings, choose your SMTP relay (Amazon SES, Mailgun, Brevo or any provider). Enter your SMTP credentials and click Test Email to confirm deliverability before launching any campaign.

Import your contacts

Go to Contacts → Import and upload a CSV with at minimum an Email column. Map the CSV columns to Mautic fields, add the contacts to a segment, and enable double opt-in if required by GDPR. Mautic validates the import and flags malformed addresses automatically.

Build your first campaign

In Campaigns → New Campaign, drag a Contact Source node (your segment), wire it to a Send Email action and set a 24-hour delay before a Follow-Up Email. Publish the campaign and watch the Timeline tab fill with engagement events as contacts flow through.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, to send email campaigns you need an SMTP relay (Amazon SES, Mailgun, Brevo, SendGrid, Postmark or any provider). Mautic cannot send emails directly from the VPS because residential and cloud IP ranges are typically blocked by major mail providers. Configure SMTP in Settings → Email Settings immediately after installation.
