Huginn (MIT, 46 000+ stars) is a Ruby on Rails agent platform: you chain autonomous agents that watch web pages via CSS/XPath selectors, aggregate RSS/Atom feeds, call APIs and trigger follow-up actions — email, webhook, Telegram or Slack — based on custom conditions. Think IFTTT or Zapier, but self-hosted and unlimited. The official Docker image bundles the web interface, the background scheduler and the agent runner in a single container backed by a PostgreSQL 16 database. You build scenarios graphically: a Website Agent extracts a field from a page, a Trigger Agent fires when a value crosses a threshold, an Email Agent sends the alert. Huginn stores every event — prices tracked, content changes, API responses — and replays them for debugging. No per-execution billing, no workflow caps: the only ceiling is your VPS RAM.

Key features

Website Agent — CSS/XPath scraping, change detection and threshold triggers on any public web page.
Event-driven chaining — every agent produces events that downstream agents consume, enabling multi-step automations.
Email, webhook, Slack and Telegram actions — built-in agents for all major notification channels.
RSS/Atom aggregation — merge multiple feeds into a single unified event stream.
Dry Run mode — preview the events an agent would produce before activating its schedule.
No execution limits — unlimited agents and checks, constrained only by your VPS CPU and RAM.

When to use this solution?

1

Price drop alerts

Create a Website Agent that extracts a product price from a retailer page using a CSS selector, chain it to a Trigger Agent that fires when the price drops below your target, and terminate at an Email Agent. Huginn polls on your schedule and delivers the alert the moment the threshold is crossed — no browser extension, no SaaS subscription.

2

Multi-source RSS aggregation

Wire several Website Agents reading competitor blogs, changelog feeds and developer mailing lists to a DigestEmailAgent. Huginn bundles the events into a daily digest covering all your sources in a single email — a personalised newsletter built entirely from feeds you choose.

3

Web change monitoring

Configure a Website Agent on a procurement portal or job board with an XPath extraction, chain it to a Trigger Agent (fires on any new content) and a Telegram agent. You receive an instant notification the moment a new listing appears, without checking the page manually.

Deploy Huginn on your VPS

Guide optimized for ServOrbit Cloud VPS.

01

Deploy Huginn from the ServOrbit Marketplace

Select Huginn in the Automation & Workflows category and click Deploy. The playbook launches PostgreSQL 16 and the Huginn container with your admin credentials auto-generated and ready.

02

Log in and secure your account

Open the ServOrbit dashboard to retrieve your generated password. Connect to your instance with username admin, then update the password in Account > Edit immediately.

03

Create your first Website Agent

Click New Agent → Website Agent. Enter the target URL, configure the CSS or XPath extraction path and set the check schedule. Click Dry Run to preview the events the agent would produce before enabling it.

04

Chain agents for automated notifications

Create an Email Agent or Webhook Agent, set the Website Agent as its source, and optionally add a Trigger Agent in between to fire only when a specific condition is met. Enable the scenario to start monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

Huginn specialises in web monitoring: its Website Agent extracts content from any page via CSS/XPath selectors, detects changes and triggers actions on condition. n8n and Node-RED focus on API-to-API flow automation with a visual canvas. Huginn is the right tool for price tracking, web change alerts and RSS aggregation; n8n is better for connecting APIs without code.
