CapRover is an open-source, self-hosted PaaS built on Docker and Docker Swarm. It gives developers a Heroku-like experience on their own infrastructure: push code, click a button, and your application is live behind HTTPS — no Kubernetes, no YAML sprawl, no monthly platform fee.
At the heart of CapRover is a web dashboard where you manage every aspect of your deployments: create apps, inject environment variables, watch build logs in real time, set up persistent volumes, configure automatic HTTPS via Let's Encrypt and roll back to any previous release. The 280+ one-click app library covers databases, monitoring tools, CMS platforms and developer utilities — all deployable with a single click.
CapRover initialises Docker Swarm on your VPS, providing container health checks, automatic restarts and zero-downtime rolling updates out of the box. The CLI lets you deploy straight from your terminal with a single `caprover deploy` command.
On ServOrbit, CapRover is provisioned on Ubuntu 24.04 with Docker pre-installed. The admin panel answers on port 3000. Domains for your deployed apps are configured through the wizard — no infrastructure expertise required.
caprover deploy ships code from your terminal without SSH access to the server.CapRover gives you the git push-to-deploy experience without the monthly platform bill. Build your Dockerfile, run caprover deploy, and your app is live behind HTTPS in seconds. Cost: the VPS you already own.
Deploy your API, a Postgres database, a Redis cache and an n8n workflow engine from the same CapRover dashboard. Each app gets its own subdomain, HTTPS certificate and environment variables — isolated but on a single machine.
Freelancers and small agencies use CapRover's one-click library to provision a fresh WordPress, Ghost or custom app per client in under two minutes. The domain and HTTPS setup is handled automatically.
Guide optimized for ServOrbit Cloud VPS.
CapRover runs comfortably on 1 GB of RAM — plan for the apps you intend to deploy alongside it. A 2 GB VPS is a comfortable starting point for a small stack (API + database + cache).
Open your ServOrbit dashboard → Marketplace → Deployment → CapRover → Deploy. The provisioner initialises Docker Swarm, pulls caprover/caprover and starts the admin panel. Allow about 60 seconds.
Navigate to http://localhost:3000 via an SSH tunnel (ssh -L 3000:127.0.0.1:3000 root@<ip>), or through your ServOrbit domain over HTTPS. The default password is captain42. Change it immediately in Settings → Captain Settings.
In the dashboard go to Settings and enter a wildcard domain you control — for example *.apps.example.com. CapRover will use it to assign a unique subdomain (myapp.apps.example.com) to each deployed app with automatic HTTPS.
Click Apps → One-Click Apps to pick from the 280+ template library, or click New App, set the image name and click Deploy. CapRover pulls the image, starts the container, provisions the certificate and makes your app live in seconds.
captain42. Change it immediately after your first login in Settings → Captain Settings — this account controls every container on your VPS.Deploy your applications from Git in seconds. Self-hosted, with no vendor lock-in, and automatic SSL.
